Volker Sommer is Professor of Evolutionary Anthropology at UCL (University College London). His expertise focuses on the evolution of social behaviour, rituals and cognition as well as biodiversity conservation, animal rights and multispecies-studies. He conducts long-term field research on monkeys and apes in the jungles of Asia and Africa. Sommer is on the scientific board of the Giordano-Bruno-Foundation, a German-based think-tank for the promotion of secularism and evolutionary humanism.
