Ludwig Engel is a futurologist and urbanist. Together with a dense network of collaborators, his post-disciplinary practice spans from teaching, researching, curating, writing, publishing to organizing workshops, conferences, discourse platforms and advising companies and public institutions on the impact of futures and utopias for society’s capabilities to act and design a better tomorrow.
Together with Julian Schubert/Something Fantastic, he co-directs the Studio for Immediate Spaces at the Sandberg Instituut in Amsterdam. Upcoming shows: May 28 at tbc; June 21 to July 4 at Reneenee; September 30 to October 4 at Het HEM.
Together with a group of neurologists, philosophers, designers, psychiatrists, urbanists and architects, he co-founded the Interdisciplinary Forum Neurourbanism that promotes future-oriented designs for cities. The Forum chairs the exhibition Mutualities in collaboration with LAAS as a Collateral Event in this year’s Architectural Biennial in Venice. On view from May 22 to November 21, 2021.
Together with Team 2038, he helped conceive "2038 – The New Serenity", the official German contribution to this year’s Architectural Biennial in Venice. On view from May 22 to November 21, 2021.
